I'm John McCann, a retired art teacher working in East Kent. I taught Art, Design and Photography for 30+ years in Liverpool, Canterbury and Ashford.

I had initially planned to devote my retirement to the development of my Photography practice, but after taking a short course in portrait sculpture, I realised that I was "hooked" on working with clay. I joined a ceramics group under the guidance of studio potter Tony Ross-Gower, who introduced me to the hard graft of pottery making. Here I learnt wheel-throwing, glazing and raku firing.
As soon as I could, I began to put my own studio "The Shed" together in my garden. I managed to find a second hand wheel and a kiln. After purchasing clay and glazes, I was ready  to begin. My practice is intuitive with each piece I work on being different from the last. Which explains the wide variety of different pieces in my work which I hope you like.
The curse of the maker is to never be completely satisfied with what is created and this is certainly true of me. It keeps me however, always trying to improve on each piece I make.
